Job Description

At AECOM, we’re delivering a better world.To act as a Signalling Principals Designer / Verifier within one of our regional signalling teams. The post holder will undertake, verify and/or lead the production of signalling design as part of a dedicated signalling design team, as well as provide guidance and leadership to staff within their and other teams.

With a comprehensive understanding of the technical and business aspects of the rail-signalling industry, the Signalling Principal Designer / Engineer will participate in multi-disciplinary project teams, providing strong technical support to the discipline in terms of production, verification and mentoring.

Support the Signalling Design Manager / Associate Director with additional duties as required such as, progress/programme reporting, tendering new works, production of guidance notes etc.

Engagement with other staff necessary to discharge these duties will be as follows:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project and Quality Delivery/Staff Development Produce deliverables in accordance with client and governance requirements for signalling and associated projects
  • Design, verify and lead the delivery of signalling projects to deliver to defined timescales
  • Bid preparation to support tendering of new works
  • Mentor junior members of the signalling discipline
  • Maintain knowledge of current practices, processes, standards and emerging technologies in relation to the signalling discipline
  • Produce and verify signalling designs and documentation at a consistent and acceptable level of quality.
  • Partake in lessons learned reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that the technical processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are followed.
  • Ensure that all skills and technical competence supporting documentation is kept up to date, e.g. IRSE licence, IRSE log book,
  • Authority to Work, Company CV, mandatory training etc.Work closely with Design Manager / Associate Director to support them with all appropriate tasks.
  • Health, Safety and EnvironmentalTaking reasonable care of own health and safety and of anyone else who could be affected by own acts or omissions
  • .Correctly using the work items provided, including personal protective equipment in accordance with training and instruction.
  • Giving full co-operation in all matters relating to health and safety.

  • Observing the requirements of the Group Health and Safety Policy.
  • Promote health and safety best practice to Discipline teams though regular team briefs
  • Ensure that procedures and systems are in place so that all projects are undertaken in a safe manner and project designs are compliant with health and safety legislation.
  • Taking an active part in monthly HSQE meetings through sharing relevant health & safety information with others and identifying and prioritising HSQE issues that affect rail and the wider business.
  • Reporting on unforeseen risks that may emerge during the course of their work using the appropriate systems
  • Identify and manage risks throughout the design process and project lifecycle

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Holder of 1.1.550v6 Signalling Principles Designer licenceExperience of delivering signalling design as part of multi-disciplinary rail systems projects
  • Commitment to professional development and retaining the highest standard of signalling design technical skills
  • The ability to be able to work in a number of differing consultancy environments and situations across the project lifecycle
  • Maintain good communication and cooperation with all project team members, with the ability to communicate at all levels and the demonstrated ability to have a senior role within a team
  • Understanding and experience of working within project budgets whilst maintaining the delivery of high-quality outputs
  • Commitment to delivery to internal and external clients, with the view towards timeliness, reliability, safety and accuracy of completed tasks
  • Experienced in the use of all MS Office packages
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UK signalling principlesExcellent knowledge of signalling systems of all generationsUnderstanding of CDM regulations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holder of 1.1.160v6 Signalling Design VerifierInstitution membership#
  • IRSE, IET etcInstitution registration; IEng, CEng etc
  • Holder of PTS
  • Engineering qualification; Degree, HND, HNC etc
  • Experienced in the use of Bentley MicroStation
  • Experienced in the use of common data environments such ProjectWise
