The Role
Maintaining the rail network is a full-time job. It calls for determination, dedication and flexibility. Because there’s no room for compromise. Our customers demand and deserve outstanding reliability from the network. And we are passionate about operational and technical excellence. From signalling and track to electrification, the possibilities are huge in Infrastructure Maintenance. Particularly when you’re both playing a hands-on role and supporting the leadership of a team.
Working in all weathers on the frontline, you’ll carry out everything from maintenance to faulting. What’s more, you’ll develop your management skills by deputising for the Team Leader.
In this key post, you’ll support a Team Leader to organise and motivate a specialist Infrastructure Maintenance team. We’ll look to you to make sure work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with exacting standards. You’ll personally carry out all kinds of work – from maintenance and renewal through to inspection and faulting.
What’s more, you’ll act as Team Leader when the job demands it. This will see you establishing safety arrangements, controlling and checking quality of work, making sure staff have the appropriate competencies for the task at hand, and ensuring vehicles, plant, equipment, tools and material are fit for purpose. It’s a crucial frontline role, which calls for a resilient approach. Working on a shift basis, you’ll maintain the same high standards at all times of day, in even the toughest weather conditions.
