Rolling Stock Production Site Engineer in London, London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom
Overview of role
In support of train life extension work, the post holder is to supply specialist technical knowledge supporting depot-based production activities within Rolling Stock project teams with the primary objective of delivering safe, compliant, efficient economic and assured engineering solutions in a timely manner.
Key Accountabilities
• Supporting prototyping and production activities on modification projects, providing an interface between production teams and project engineering teams.
• Providing technical guidance to production staff
• Oversight of work instruction development and implementation.
• Investigation and resolution of component failures during production/entry into service.
• Investigation and resolution of system failures during production/entry into service.
• Management of recording and approval of concessions and modifications to design and build variation.
• Supplier technical liaison.
• Reception auditing unmodified trains prior to modification.
• Oversight of formation and routine testing of modified trains.
• Interpretation of design documentation.
Skills
• Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence.
• Ability to use initiative and good judgement when responding to emerging situations, deciding and agreeing appropriate actions with project management.
Knowledge
• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree.
• Chartered Engineer Status or qualifications leading to Chartered Status together with membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• Thorough understanding of mechanical or electrical engineering principles
• Knowledge of safety legislation and operating rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of LU business, its obligations and priorities.
• Knowledge of Rolling Stock, preferably London Underground trains.
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques and good industry practice.
• Awareness of risk management principles.
• Awareness of project lifecycle principles and processes, ideally TfL Pathway.
• Awareness of contractual arrangements.
• Working knowledge of aspects of the track, trains, signalling system, and civil structures insofar as they interface with other parts of the operational business.
Experience
• Experience of implementation of rolling stock modifications, including support to production activities.
• Experience of managing supplier and project interfaces.
• Experience of carrying out technical document review and analysis.
• Experience of testing, manufacturing and operation of rolling stock system designs.
• Experience of building relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation
