Site Engineer Tunnelling & Marine construction
Specific Responsibilities
Deliverables/Accountabilities
- Checking technical information (specifications and drawings); identification of any ambiguities or shortcomings therein and reporting to line manager to enable Technical Queries to be raised for their resolution.
- Ensure that sufficient information is available on drawings and sketches to set out the works in accordance with the programme and report any inconsistencies in the information provided to the section engineer to resolve.
- Dimensional setting out and control of temporary and permanent works.
- Arrange and allow time for independent checking where required.
- Checking the calibration of survey equipment.
- Undertake Quantity take off for materials from drawings to enable requisitions to be raised.
- Participation in the development of SSHEQ controls for specific activities.
- Ensuring that any stoppage, additional work or opportunity for performance improvement is brought to the attention of the section engineer.
- Specific safety duties as delegated by line management.
- Keeping complete and accurate diaries and records to protect company’s interests and demonstrate compliance with SSHEQ procedures
- Develop weekly programmes with section engineer and use simple benchmark productivity measures to assess actual programme and productivity achieved.
- Communicate with foremen, gangers, workforce and sub-contractors to ensure full understanding of information provided.
- Check the works during progress and on completion to ensure that it has been constructed in line with the setting-out information provided.
- Ensure check sheets are signed off by subcontractors and foreman and that information is passed to the Quality Team.
- Take receipt of materials and check description, quality, markings and condition before signing for and ensure that all tickets are passed to the section engineer for coding.
- Carries out Material take-offs.
- Activity Control Plans.
- Field Control Sheets.
- Completes As Built Drawings and Quality Records (Technical Queries, Setting Out And Dimensional Controls, Formation Approvals, Reinforcement Records, Concrete Pour Records, Drainage Inspection Records, Instrument Calibration Checks etc);
- Maintains Daily site diary.
- Carries out regular Health and Safety Inspections.
Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering.
- 1-2 years site experience in Civil Engineering.
- Relevant CSCS Card.
- Willingness to work as part of a team, to gain knowledge and experience from colleagues and supervisors and to accept challenges.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Adobe PDF).
Desirable:
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS): Site Safety Plus
- Association for Project Managers Professional Course (APMP)
