Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are supporting one of the UK's most prestigious train manufacturers to recruit for an Approvals Manager in one of the busiest depot's in the Midlands.
The Opportunity
Working with a world class leader in the international market for the design, manufacture, maintenance of rolling stock, Ford & Stanley and keen to speak with engineers with an assurance or approvals background who are seeking to progress their career within safety management.
You will be responsible for the management, control and coordination of all approvals related activities, strategies, systems and deliverables for the company's projects in the UK. Your role will be to ensure that all the necessary approvals are gained, and safety is demonstrated to ensure the timely introduction into service of new fleets onto the UK railway; as such this is a pivotal role within the organisation.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Supporting the UK Approvals Manager in the delivery of all required approvals and authorisations to permit the entry into service of new fleets in the UK.
- Establishing and managing systems to support the planning, coordination and monitoring of all approvals requirements, submissions and activities for the company's contracts in the UK
- Liaising with the various certifying, assessment and authorising bodies in the UK
- Coordinating with the Approvals Project Manager(s) and Project Safety Managers
- Providing Approvals & Safety related input into tenders and bids.
- Coordination of submissions to the Safety Assessment body and providing support in resolving issues arising.
- Providing input to CSM deliverables, where required, to support acceptance in the UK. preparation of the Project(s)Compatibility File
- Coordination of Compatibility Workstreams and Steering Groups in conjunction with Network Rail and the Train Operator.
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined, you may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with your level and competence, which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity change the general character or level of responsibility to the post.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable approvals and assurance experience within the UK railway who can quickly find their feet in a busy and exciting new trains environment. You will hold the technical knowledge needed to outline any faults and changes needed on projects to ensure approval is obtained with minimal issues.
As such a degree of commercial awareness is imperative so that you are able to liaise confidently with engineering and commercial teams to conduct any necessary changes.
Essentials
- 5+ years management experience within a production engineering environment.
- Rail/heavy manufacturing background
- Understanding of rolling stock maintenance
- A working knowledge of financial and contract management including negotiating skills
- Technical knowledge of traction, rolling stock and associated systems is desirable.
