Assistant Depot Manager
Location: Bletchley, Milton Keynes
Contract: 6 Months (FTC)
PURPOSE OF JOB
Assist the Depot Manager in effectively managing Bletchley TMD and its employees/contractors to deliver the specified safety, operations and cleaning objectives. This shall be done in a manner that is compliant with all applicable legislation, contractual terms and company procedures or systems
Ensure that Key Point Indicators are met, in particular targets agreed in Safety performance. Responsible for the overall day to day safety at the depot.
Play an active role in ensuring that traction leaves the depot on time, to plan and in correct formation.
Undertake supervisory/management duties within a small, remote team as part of role.
LIST OF DUTIES
1. Work to the instructions of the Depot Manager and under your own initiative, undertake any work as required subject to competence
2. Ensure that all appropriate procedures and work instructions are carried out in accordance with documented systems. Carry out all safety procedures in accordance with statutory and local requirements
3. Carry out Safety tours and ensure that any actions are closed in a timely manner
4. Complete any accident/incident forms as per the procedure and complete initial investigation
5. Maintain all competence of employees as required
6. Keep place of work clean and tidy at all times, this may involve cleaning of the facility
7. Ensure that stores are kept stocked, ensure that fuel usage is recorded and returned to Tyseley Stores
8. Ensure adherence to working instructions and Quality, Safety & Environmental procedures in place
9. Assist other team members as required/directed
10. Undertake any other duties commensurate to the post to facilitate completion of required workload
11. Undertake on the job guidance and mentoring of, trainees, new starters and transferees. Ensure team members receive the required training and development
12. Carry out Technical, Quality, Safety & General briefings as required ensuring action is taken on items raised
13. Carry out regular meetings with team members in order that problems are resolved quickly and effectively
14. Instigate sickness and discipline procedures, completing welfare calls where appropriate
15. Manage resource requirements ensuring minimum staffing levels are adhered to in order to meet the business plan
16. Carry out the role of Depot operations Controller as and when required
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
- Leadership experience or qualifications are essential, the post holder must be trained to level 3 as a minimum
- An extensive knowledge and experience of railway operation and maintenance practices is essential
- A good understanding of COSHH safety related instructions is essential
- Must have an ability to communicate clearly and confidently with all levels of personnel both written and oral
- Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative
- Must be trained in PTS as part of the role
Specific Safety Duties
• Maintaining safety standards and safe methods of working
• Ensuring full compliance with systems for investigation and reporting of accidents to employees and other reportable incidents ensuring effective corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence
• Ensuring the safety of employees, contractors and visitors who are working in the department
• Check that immediate reports receive and understand relevant safety related documentation
