Job Description:

The role will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day construction activities of project works in relation to safety, quality, environment, engineering/design compliance, commissioning, functionality and programme. This will involve the management of both sub-contractors and direct labour, implementing processes to control the delivery of the works. The role will be comfortable in leading and managing safety performance, providing briefings, toolbox talks and mentoring junior staff.The role will be site/mobile based and require suitable experience and knowledge of undertaking a lead role in discharging the company’s duties in relation to the Principal Contractor role, under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

Work alongside the Project Manager and Contracts Manager to develop the methodology of all works to ensure that works are planned and delivered efficiently and safely. It is essential that the role is familiar with the requirement for planning works on or adjacent to live railway infrastructure, to provide challenge, support and feedback on the plans.

Accountable and responsible for production of daily site reports, completion of Inspection and Test plans, Safety and Environmental inspection/audits in line with Egis Transport Solution (ETS) Business Management System (BMS), company policies and processes and where applicable, in-line with industry best practice.The role will have a general appreciation of commercial activities and construction contracts, be able to support Project and Commercial Mangers in resolving any contractual disputes between parties that could arise from the works, and able to highlight potential risks/early warnings.

  • The H&S performance of all site based activities under their control, ensuring they are in-line with company standards, industry best practices and legal requirement
  • Act as the nominated representative on-site as the Principal Contractor in relation to CDM regulations
  • A strong working knowledge of relevant Network Rail Group and Company standards
  • Where required, produce, check and review, safety and construction documentation (CCP/WPP/TBS/RA/SSOW/SWP/ITP) in relation assigned contracts
  • Support Project Managers to ensure correct resources are in place and successfully managed - from direct employees to contractors - to ensure the correct skill set is in place on each project
  • Work with the wider ETS team to complete technical and construction inputs for bids and tenders
  • Ensure compliance to Health and safety legislation, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and NR/L2/OHS/0019
  • Carry out and record briefings for updates to the EPCM team, including sub-contractors, promoting best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities
  • Identify and share best practice across the various project teams
  • To lead in the growth of the EPCM team, recruitment of construction staff
  • Ensuring adequate control measures are in place on your sites for stock of materials, plant and safety equipment

Profile:

Essential:

  • Proven construction leadership in delivering rail infrastructure schemes
  • Proven experience as Senior Supervisor/Construction Manager
  • Project and team-running experience in UK client or contractor organisations
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage staff, suppliers, and members of the public
  • Excellent IT skills, with ability to use bespoke site diary applications and Microsoft Office packages
  • Hold (or previously held) SMSTS qualifications and/or IOSH certification
  • Excellent understanding of Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, HSWA)
  • Strong engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance
  • PTS AC/DC
  • Valid driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK

  • Appropriate rail industry licenses such as COSS/ES
  • Temporary works coordinator/supervisor
  • Lift Planner/Supervisor
  • PASMA certified
  • First Aid Trained
  • Other related construction qualifications
