The role

An opportunity has arisen for a Construction Manager to join the VolkerRail, Major Projects Division. The role will initially be involved in the tendering/bidding of various opportunities and frameworks for around 12 months before becoming operational.

Key accountabilities

Once the tendering activities are complete, the role will transfer to a project where the following activities will form the main duties of the role. Responsible for advising the Project Manager and Project Team on the construction of Civils works.

Responsible for ensuring that all Civils activities are installed to the approved design and is compliant with Client and Industry Standards.

Liaise with the projects team personnel to ensure their requirements are understood and complied with.

Manage the construction budget on projects and ensure there is a robust change control mechanism to capture variations.

Provide input to the project planner including the production of box plans, access plans and look ahead programmes as required.

Manage resource planning for the delivery of works including long term resource forecasting to the Senior Construction manager.

Participate as required in project construction/planning meetings.

Participate and chair as necessary PDR & White Board meetings.

Undertake Site monitoring in accordance with the laid down programme and other quality checks on both procedure, process installation, testing and commissioning.

Provide effective communication of information to facilitate compliance with Statutory, Industry, Mandatory and VolkerRail requirements for use by the projects team.

Provide input as required to the bid and work winning teams to ensure VolkerRail present the client with competitive and compliant tenders. Provide input as required to answer client questions in relation to tenders submitted. Provide input on design, buildability, and methodologies as required.

Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements.

Undertake Category 3 audits and management checks as directed and provide reports to appropriate Senior Management.

Ensure compliance with CDM undertaking the production of WPP's & Risk Assessments.

Provide input as required to SSOW Planners to enable safe systems of work to be established for all works

Establish and maintain project files.

Ensure all the delivery of all site activities are fully coordinated in line with the project programme.

Undertake the management of sub-contractors.

Undertake or participate in inquires and investigations as directed by Senior Management.

Work in close collaboration with the Project Engineers & CRE's to provide guidance and support as necessary.

Manage and direct the Site Civils Supervisors providing support as necessary to achieve efficient delivery, commissioning and hand back of works.

Undertake or participate in constructability and technical reviews as required.

Undertake coaching in engineering and construction techniques to the project teams as required.

Support the project teams in the development of methodologies for Civils construction works.

Undertake Responsible Manager Duties as defined in NR/L2/OHS/019 & SAF019

Ensure that all proposed change is managed in accordance with VolkerRail Group Standards.

Identify, manage and monitor risks and opportunities which may affect project programme or budget.

Core requirement - ONC Civil Engineering: or Equivalent.

Desirable - HNC Civils Engineering

Experience

Core requirement - Proven experience in Civils & Construction works including an appropriate period of time acting in a Managerial or Supervisory capacity. Project planning, sequencing of works and critical path planning. Commercial awareness and ability to produce and maintain construction budgets.

Desirable - Proven experience in railway Civils Engineering and construction including associated railway standards.
