Racon Resource is working with one of the UK’s main rail freight operating companies to assist them in appointing a Yard Manager for their Distribution Centres. Overseeing their operations in Eastleigh, with also a small proportion of your week overseeing their centre in Bescot.

We are seeking a safety conscious individual who will work closely with the Operations Manager, you will have great communication skills and customer focused approach to help ensure safe and efficient operations at these locations.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will also be responsible for arranging all customer requirements regarding the shunting, marshalling and positioning of trains along with other core responsibilities below.

• Arrange all movements and operational requirements within Eastleigh and Bescot in accordance with the Location Operations Manuals in place (LOM)
• Understand and ensure focused delivery of the performance criteria as defined in the Client contract
• Ensure all equipment within Eastleigh and Bescot is maintained to minimum standards to enable reliable and continuous operation
• Ensure shifts are fully manned and contingency plans are in place in case of last-minute changes to roster
• People management including return to work interviews following staff absences and ensuring staff are fully aware and understand the performance and behavioral standards required to deliver a high level of customer service
• Carry out safety briefs to all staff at Eastleigh and Bescot in accordance with the schedule in place
• Carry out all visitor/contractor site briefs ensuring compliance with the LOMs at all times
• Report any unusual occurrences, unsafe practices, accidents or incidents to control
• Undertake accident/incident investigations as required and compile robust reports
• Right time performance monitoring and root cause analysis for failure to depart right time, this would also include other locations that are run by other FOC’s which would have a detrimental effect or our Clients’ ability to deliver
• 24-hour service review for weekly possessions and network trips
• Yard management and highlighting peak periods where additional staff are needed to maintain performance, likewise quiet periods to use staff for training or reduce RDW
• Attend local performance meetings or conference calls with internal and external stakeholders (NR)
• Produce weekly performance data sheet for yard performance
• Manage LDC agreements concerning yard capacity with the customer and utilise Network services to free up capacity

Candidate Essential Requirements:

• Previous operational experience on the railway, including a Personal Track Safety Certificate
• Understanding of the Rail Operator activities and responsibilities as well as the operations at Eastleigh and Bescot
• Ability to multi-task and make quick decisions for short notice changes to train plans
• Excellent and clear communication skills
• Safety conscious
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• A clean full UK driving licence

Candidate Desirable Requirements:

• Rail Operator competence
• People management/supervisory experience
• TOLO and IOSH competence
