Purpose

Provision of sufficient reliable locomotives and rolling stock in line with train plan requirements and business demand

Ensure the safe, effective operation of the maintenance depots for AC fleets, diesel fleets and wagon fleets including outstations and instilling continuous improvement philosophy

Provision of scheduled maintenance and other works for the locomotive and rolling stock fleets to improve performance, through effective maintenance plans, introduce technological developments, ultilisation of manpower, facilities and resources, safely and in an environmentally aware manner

Exploitation and maximisation of commercial opportunities through marketing and sales of, 3rd party locomotive and rolling stock maintenance and overhaul to ensure customer expectations are met

Lead and develop a culture of employee engagement and energise all employees to contribute to the success of the business; based on mutual respect and commitment, effective communication, timely feedback on performance and providing realistic opportunities for career development

Required skills and experience:

• Must have experience of leading a large cross functional team.

• Must have the ability to lead the management team, pulling on individuals’ strengths and developing their weaknesses.

• Must have multimillion-pound budget responsibility experience.

• Must have an engineering background with a recognised apprenticeship.

• Must have had previous experience of implementing continuous improvement initiatives within the workplace.

• Must have extensive experience working in an engineering environment.

• Must be flexible with their working hours.

Desirable but not essential experience:

• Management qualification (ILM/CMI) level 5 and above.

• Experience with technical sales.

• Experience with commercial contracts.
