Engineering Manager in London, London, United Kingdom
Job Purpose:
* Support Project Manager and other Engineering Managers in the production, tracking, submission and approval of technical assurance documentation.
* Establish and consolidate relationships with client team and HS2 to ensure document meet requirements and are agreed in principle prior to formal submission.
* Manage the production of deliverables in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
* Manage all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
Key Accountabilities:
* Lead continuous improvement in health, safety and welfare.
* Drive production, submission and approval of formal technical assurance documentation to time and budget.
* Establish and consolidate relationships with client team and HS2 to ensure document meet requirements.
* Manage the production of deliverables in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
* Work to ensure maximum client satisfaction and championing client care.
* Build strong working relationships with other teams and technical disciplines.
* Provide specialised technical input to design and documentation, where required.
* Develop and propose potential solutions, including solutions that fall outside the standard codes where appropriate, to meet or exceed client expectations.
* Guide clients through the technical decision making process and provide alternative solutions if there are changes to project parameters.
* Resolve differences of opinion between designers, checkers and reviewers.
* Influence the performance of team members and sub-contractors to deliver the project's objectives.
Knowledge & Experience:
* BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline preferred.
* Chartered Engineer professional status, or equivalent.
* Demonstrably successful experience in engineering management and assurance gained in a comparable design and engineering environment.
* Can influence design team to deliver high quality deliverables, on time and to budget.
* Able to influence client reps to agree proposed design solutions.
* Exercise sound holistic independent judgement and take responsibility.
* Demonstrate appropriate professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
* Exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner.
* Able to communicate well with others at all levels including effective use of English orally and in writing.
* Discuss ideas and plan competently and with confidence.
* Have first rate personal and social skills.
* Sound knowledge of legislation, hazards and safe systems of work.
* Experienced in working with people from varied disciplines, backgrounds and cultures.
* Manage the planning and organisation of tasks, people and resources.
* Have experience in managing business relationships at senior management level.
* Have ability to use a sound evidence-based approach to problem solving and be able to contribute to continuous improvement.
* Able to provide input to estimates for the engineering budget and schedule and oversee technical resources to meet requirements on large, complex projects.
* Use sound knowledge of commercial frameworks within own area of responsibility.
* Demonstrate sound judgement on statutory, contractual and commercial issues in relation to own area of responsibility.
