Engineering Manager in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Our client is a leading tier 1 contractor with an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Manager to join their team on a permanent basis located in the Oxford region reporting directly to their Construction Director.

The scope of works includes delivering civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. The works includes 15 viaducts, 6.9km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 81 bridges and around 30 million cubic metres of excavation.

You will be required to have a strong technical civil engineering background working for tier 1 contractors on major infrastructure projects.

Day to day duties -

  • Providing quasi-independent design, technical and engineering oversight of all construction matters on behalf of the Contractor's Engineering Director (SCEW) and Lead Designer (WI 300), to ensure proper execution of the works by the construction delivery team. Reviewing and accepting RAMS (WPP) and ITPs on behalf of the CED. Overseeing the management and execution of temporary works, leading and managing a team of Temporary Works Co-ordinators.
  • Overseeing the proper co-ordination, integration and execution of the permanent works and temporary works designs. Providing technical support and guidance to the construction delivery teams, including SCEW matters, NCRs, short notice design changes (TQs, FCRs), materials approvals, shop drawing reviews, temporary works design reviews, and testing. Overseeing the timely and accurate redlining of approved changes to the design by the construction delivery team. Lead or support (as necessary) in relation to the above for technical assurance purposes Leading, directing and managing the Construction Support as described in the ASC (DJV) Stage Two Scope (section 3 Construction Support Services). Agreeing with ASC the strategy and subsequent implementation of a 'risk based approach' for reviewing temporary works designs and shop drawings.
  • Monitoring performance of the ASC Construction Support team, including quarterly performance reviews and forecasting. Instructing changes in the scale and nature (location, grade and discipline blend) of the ASC Construction Support team. This includes holding budgetary control and cost forecasting.

Qualifications

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related Engineering subject
