An Environmental Manager with rail construction experience is required for a permanent opportunity in Birmingham.
The primary objective is to lead Management of Environmental Risk and opportunity in Construction, the production and implementation of a Construction Environmental Management Plan
Key responsibilities:
- Investigation into site environmental events/incidents and close calls
- Lead integration of Environmental Risk Management with the Project Construction Team
- Support the Sustainability Specialist in the preparation for and implementation of the Considerate Contractors Scheme
- Membership to the Sustainability Working Party and lead steer for the delivery of the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan
During GRIP 4-5 (before September 2018)
Production of:
- The Code of Construction Practice (Final ES Appendix)
- CEMPs to support local approvals
- Overarching CEMP and sub-plans where appropriate
- Coordination of the production of the specialist CEMP sub-plans: External Communications Plan (including complaints procedure); Landscape and Ecology Management Plan (including tree protection/vegetation retention); Pollution Prevention and Emergency/Incident Control Plan; Flood Emergency Response Plan; Traffic Management Plan; Green Travel Plan; Site Waste Management plan; Soil Management Plan; Materials Management Plan; Archaeological Management Plan (Written Scheme of Investigation); Carbon and Energy Management Plan; Noise and Vibration Plan; and Nuisance Management Plan
- Lead the consultation of the draft of the CEMPs to support the agreement with local authorities and other relevant statutory regulators In advance of the start of construction
- Site assurance/inspection and environmental technical support/risk appraisal to site works and subcontractors, including advance mitigation and site investigation/surveys
- Tool Box Talks and Environmental Awareness Training for survey and Advanced Mitigation Contractors
- Recruit the on-site Environmental Management Team in preparation and during construction stage. Expected to include are based Environmental Specialists, Ecology Manager, Ecology and Archaeology Clerk of Work team.
During GRIP 6 (Main Construction Works - Post September 2018)
- Implementation and review of CEMP and sub-plans where appropriate
- Lead and manage on-site Environmental Management Team (to start Sept 2018). Expected to include area based Environmental Specialists, Ecology Manager, Ecology and Archaeology Clerk of Work team
- External Communications Plan (including complaints procedure); Landscape and Ecology Management Plan (including tree protection/vegetation retention); Pollution Prevention and Emergency/Incident Control Plan; Flood Emergency Response Plan; Traffic Management Plan; Green Travel Plan; Site Waste Management plan; Soil Management Plan; Materials Management Plan; Archaeological Management Plan (Written Scheme of Investigation); Carbon and Energy Management Plan; Noise and Vibration Plan; and Nuisance Management Plan
Experience and skills required:
Required
- On site Environmental Management on a major construction/infrastructure project
- Previous experience of leading a team
- Previous experience in the implementation of Considerate Contractor Scheme
- Member of relevant Professional Institution
- Excellent communicator, both written (CEMP production) and in training/briefings
Preferred
- Chartered or working towards Chartership
- Relevant specialist knowledge/expertise, for example, construction noise and vibration, waste management etc.
