Role Summary
This is an exciting time to join a busy rail company as a Fleet Engineering Manager.
As a Fleet Engineering Manager you will directly manage a team of Fleet Engineers to develop and continually improve multiple passenger fleets. You will lead fleet development initiatives improve safety, reliability, passenger experience, profit and environmental impact. Improvements may come from process, specification or component/system modification. You will also offer technical support for business-critical projects including the Major Programmes team.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for Managing Engineering Changes via the Engineering Change tracker ensure business critical changes are being progressed within agreed timescales.
- Manage a portfolio of development initiatives, ensuring workstreams are prioritised and deadlines are met.
- Be present at any meetings pertaining to fleet development, both internally and with any external partners.
- Competent Person responsible for approving Engineering Changes under the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Manage any risk to Safety, Performance and Reliability.
- Support RCA investigations
- Reporting to the business on fleet development and demonstrating achievements in this area.
- Lead technical investigations if required and provide relevant reports & recommendations.

As this role is working in a live rail depot, we will require all successful applicants to pass a rail standard drugs & alcohol test prior to start and they will be subject to the client’s policy of random testing throughout their engagement.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum level 4 qualification in Engineering (HNC/HND or higher).
- Experience of operational Rolling Stock – specifically EMUs and passenger fleet.
- Ability to manage a technical team with a strong continual improvement focus.
- Highly organised & able to prioritise workload.
- Experience of creating business cases and/or engineering change documentation.
- Demonstrable experience in improving fleet reliability, safety or performance.
