Job location: Derby
Salary: Circa £45kpa permanent or willing to consider temp to perm contractors on initial day rates
Shifts: Straight Days M-F
Hours per week: 40 hours per week

Duration: Permanent or 3-month temp to perm

Position Summary:
An experienced health, safety and environment practitioner is sought to drive improvement in practices and behaviours in a busy manufacturing environment. The very large site is under constant scrutiny, both internally and externally, and therefore has a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, as well as delivering non-legal initiatives to promote a preventive culture. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a demanding work pace with conflicting priorities while having an ability to take a strategic approach to identifying and developing initiatives to support the site preventive culture programs.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility for ensuring that the site fulfils all relevant health, safety and environmental statutory duties, thereby contributing to accident prevention and reduction, as well as supporting programmes to improve environmental performance and thereby reducing exposure to prosecution/fines. This includes:
*Understanding and assessing the impacts of legislation on the business;
*Assessing risks and creating process- and activity-based risk assessments, based on hazard
*Providing guidance and support to managers and team leaders and acting as a coach to raise understanding and compliance;
recognition process (using Failure Mode Effect Analysis);
*Effectively managing the hazardous substances control process in areas of responsibility;
*Deploying the site manual handling and ergonomic assessment program;
*Implementing control of contractors processes, including Construction (Design and Management) regulations when applicable;
*Generating hand arm vibration assessments, including multi-tool hand-arm vibration assessment reports;
*Managing statutory tests and inspections, electrical safety, fire, noise, etc.
Have a thorough understanding of environmental legislation and standards to facilitate support for the site senior environmental specialist with various environmental statutory duties, including:
*Solvent stock-check data input;
*Collation of waste duty of care information; licence/permit checks;
*Packaging data collection and input;
*Refrigerant gas information gathering;
*Energy, waste and water data management;
*Corporate environmental data reporting; etc.
Responsibility for non-legal health, safety and environmental issues, including:
*Checking compliance with health and safety requirements through the use of Key Performance Indicators / internal audits;
*Investigating all accidents, incidents, and near-misses using advanced root cause analysis
*Analysing accident trends and identifying, designing and deploying safety programmes based trend data;
*Identifying, designing and deploying initiatives as part of the site preventive culture programme;
*Creating and delivering effective, high-quality health, safety and environment training packages; delivering the site HSE induction;
*Designing and deploying health, safety and environment initiatives to continually improve health, safety and environmental performance (e.g. behavioural safety culture), including regular communication with all levels of the organisation;
*Improving the site health, safety and environment management system and maintaining OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certification, with a view to upgrade to the revised standards at a future date;
*Providing expert advice, coaching and support to all areas of the business, including advice on equipment, processes and practices.
Qualifications:
Minimum of NEBOSH certificate, supported by comprehensive experience in similar health and safety role and from a manufacturing industry background OR Membership of IEMA, supported by experience in similar environmental role and from a manufacturing industry background
Any additional professional qualifications within HSE would be an advantage.
