HSQE Manager in Manchester, United Kingdom
CAF is one of the international market leaders in the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of equipment and components for rail systems with presence across the globe in all continents. In the UK market we are present for more than a decade and now we are expanding exponentially through a corporate holding and two differentiated business units: rolling stock and rail services. CAF Rolling Stock UK Ltd will start operating a brand new assembly facility in Newport (Wales) with a workforce of around 300 staff.
The HSQE Manager will be responsible for driving the Health & Safety, Environmental & Quality aspects of the company. This is a key role within the leadership team and it is expected that the successful candidate will be comfortable in producing and co-ordinating the longer term HSEQ roadmap, delivering continuous improvement and educating individuals in order to influence the direction of the business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the development and implementation of environment management systems based on the ISO 14001 standard
- Maintain CAF Rail UK Quality policy for ISO 9001 both in terms of management methods and procedures and in terms of development and monitoring rolling stock and depot installations.
- Regularly visit depots to perform reviews of HSEQ procedures meet current & future operational requirements.
- Reports to senior management on HSEQ performance and certification progress
- Oversee all aspects of Health and Safety including risk assessments, ways of working and H&S auditing
- Represent Health and Safety in all areas of the business and at all levels
- Review Health and Safety performance and determine the adequacy of the existing systems, making recommendations for change
- Create and implement programmes and procedures to manage identified risks
- Work across our multiple locations to support the identification, sharing and adoption of best practice
- Review major accident potential and implement prevention techniques
- Define annual Health and Safety objectives for the operations teams and set/report on measures for success
- Working closely with stakeholders to ensure awareness, understanding and commitment to Health and Safety
- Our ideal candidate will have a very hands on attitude, understand fast-paced, operational, blue collar environments and be able to evidence first-hand experience of leading and delivering effective Health and Safety programmes.
REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILLS:
- Degree qualified self-motivated professional capable of working remotely from the parent Company - ESSENTIAL
- Significant experience in HSEQ fields preferably within the railway industry - DESIRABLE
- NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma -ESSENTIAL
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience as a HSQE Manager and relevant experience of working at both strategic and operational level - DESIRABLE
- A knowledgeable understanding of ISO 9001 & adherence to additional standards, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 & BBA - ESSENTIAL
- Excellent communication skills - ESSENTIAL
- Excellent attention to detail -ESSENTIAL
- Excellent IT skills, including window based software packages - ESSENTIAL
- A proven senior leader who can demonstrate significant experience of managing people and change; whilst making commercial decisions, in conjunction with multiple stakeholder groups - ESSENTIAL
- Experience driving improvement across business - ESSENTIAL
