Role Purpose: My client a leading UK engineering contractor is currently looking for an M&E Construction Manager to join their Glasgow office The role will require you to oversee design consultants in the production of Approval In Principle and Detailed designs. You will also be responsible for overseeing construction works to ensure compliance with regulations and company procedures. The work will include: underbridge / overbridge replacement; level crossing upgrades / replacements; station refurbishment as well as enhancements projects such as new station builds. The Design Co-ordinator will guarantee that designs prepared by the consultants fit the client’s needs, as outlined by the contract documents, and will provide the finest engineering solutions including satisfying any budget or constructability constraints. Duties to include: • reviewing designs and providing feedback to the designers • monitoring the design programme, ensuring programme milestones are met; • Resolution of design queries • reviewing aspects of the designs including constructability and H&S implications; • overseeing (sporadically undertaking) all aspects of the works from initial dilapidation survey through to design and construction to testing, commissioning and handback; • Ensuring all designs are sufficiently co-ordinated by liaising with colleagues • managing the interface between designs and affected areas/parties such as temporary works, the public,stakeholders and the operational railway • Participating in regular design meetings; • Internal programme monitoring, cost monitoring, and risk management; • Heading up value engineering workshops at design commencement; • Participating in inter-disciplinary check meetings for all designs; • Identifying any additional information required by the designer Skills required: • Excellent written and verbal communication • Self-motivated and able to work independently • Mechanical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering degree is preferred; • Knowledge of design codes, specifications and standards relating to core construction activities and materials; • Minimum 3 years’ experience of design / design management / construction • Experience of working within the rail industry; • PTS and CSCS certification preferred Competitive salary plus car; Business expenses reimbursed including travel required for meetings.
