The role
An opportunity has arisen for a Materials Manager to join our rapidly expanding Signalling Department.
Key accountabilities
Key duties will include:
- Support the Project Engineer and Construction Manager with the drafting of the Project Materials Schedule for each signalling project across our frame works, other contracts and alliances with, from tender through to delivery.
- Review the Project Materials Schedule for each of the active signalling projects and determine the procurement strategy for each project.; Determine the best suppliers to be used for each item of equipment in relation to cost, lead times and logistics and generate orders as required through the VR procurement process.
- Supported by the Project Engineer, ensure that the specification of products and materials meets necessary standards. Suggest alternatives where required material cannot be procured in time.
- Undertake regular reviews of each Project Materials Schedule (with the Project Engineer), providing guidance to the Engineer and Construction Manger when required.
- Ensure that any variations to materials through design changes are acted upon. Ensure that the site delivery teams are also updated on any changes.
- Obtain quotations for materials from supply chain and raise requisitions in the Coins system.
- Manage review meetings with suppliers, tracking expected delivery dates, assessing any impact delays may have on site delivery.
- Ensure that the correct materials and quantities for project delivery are provided on time to meet the site delivery programme.
- Liaise with the procurement team buyer to ensure material order process is in line with the programme and that materials are ordered at the appropriate delivery address and any with specials requirements.
- Provide Project Engineering, Installation and Stores personnel with updates on Material deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage Doncaster J3 consumables stores plus support location Fabrication
- Manage the setup of remote consumables stores across sites which request this facility.
- Establish and audit depot systems for managing all material for their certificates of conformity, from receipt through to health & safety file submission.
- Be the point of contact for the reporting of faulty equipment, ensuring that the correct paperwork is completed and actioned within the required timescales.
Skills & experience
The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail and be self-motivated with a pro-active approach with experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines with a minimum level of supervision. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are required for this role.
The candidate will also ideally have the following Experience/skill set:
- Experience of working in a Signalling project construction site environment.
- A competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- A positive and enthusiastic approach to challenges and problems.
- The ability to manage work to meet varying deadlines.
