Principal Engineering Manager - TRU01

What is the purpose of this role?

The Track & Electrification CEM Construction will manage and control the engineering aspects of the delivery of all Track, Electrification, activities associated with their Project. Safety and engineering assurance are critical in this.

The Track & Electrification CEM Construction will support the Track & Electrification Project Lead and Engineering Lead by advising on, and assisting with, strategic resourcing, promoting collaborative behaviours, and providing engineering, technical and safety guidance.

What will this role involve?
  • Overall Responsibility for all construction activities.
  • Ensure consistent Constructability input is provided
  • Ensure discipline’s readiness for all EiS (Entry into Service), DWWP, QSRA input
  • Provide direct input in respect to CDM, SbD, CSM and TSI functions.
  • Support Alliance with any CDM, CSM, TSI, LEAN activities.
  • Attendance of key Engineering meetings and IDC/IDR/DDR
  • Assisting NR PE in managing and monitoring compliance with the TRU High-level principles for health safety and wellbeing deliverables
  • Ensuring that continual improvement is achieved and shared
  • Ensure consistency is applied across the programme with respect to Track and Electrification implementation.
  • Site monitoring and safety assurance
  • Support DPEs, Engineering Directors and Engineering Lead as required.
  • Ensuring that all members of the engineering team understand the Alliance Charter, know their CDM/CSM/TSI/SbD obligations.
  • Preparation and review of the critical project engineering documentation (such as the CPP, WPP, TBs).
  • Manage preparation and review of the AMP engineering documentation.
  • Promote continuous improvement through engineering innovations
  • Collate and control engineering documentation to ensure a uniform approach and concise reporting to the alliance and external stakeholders

What we are looking for?

Essential

  • Hold a relevant degree qualification or demonstratable experience in rail industry in lieu of degree
  • Hold relevant HNC/HND qualification.
  • Relevant experience in the successful engineering management of major projects of work in the rail industry.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE, PWI, IET)
  • Strong engineering knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of the principles of Health & Safety, quality and environment legislation and best practice.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the role of CRE / CEM (combined)
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrable delivery of leadership and promotion of collaborative forms of working within large programmes

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of/experience in multi-disciplinary Projects within the UK railway industry
  • Preferable to have both Track and Electrification experience
  • Knowledge of/experience in Alliancing
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the rail construction industry.
  • SMSTS / IOSH / NEBOSH qualified
