Rolling Stock Engineering Manager
Purpose of the Job
To provide Engineering Manager level professional leadership for all technical aspects of the
Rolling Stock works for the Project.
The role is to oversee the discipline execution within and provide the Client direction and input to the Contractor required for the delivery of the rolling stock works to the project quality requirements and within the discipline budget and schedule.
Principal Accountabilities
Overseeing all engineering and systems integration aspects of the rolling stock delivery.
Ensuring compliance of the Rolling Stock works with the Sponsor, Project (CPFR) and Operating Concept requirements.
Managing and providing technical direction to the Rolling Stock Project Engineers.
Managing technical advisers engaged to support the RS&D delivery.
Managing and coordinating the technical interfaces of the Rolling Stock with the Depot and with all other disciplines and 3rd parties, including Infrastructure Managers.
Act as the focal point for all technical aspects of the discipline.
Advise on the application of mandatory and best-practice engineering and design standards.
Developing testing strategies for the integration of the rolling stock with the Central
Section and Network Rail infrastructure.
Ensuring the designs are compliant with technical requirements and relevant standards and legislation by application of a Technical Assurance process complimenting the Technical Assurance Strategy.
Technical input to the discipline commissioning and maintenance strategies.
Ensuring delivery is managed in accordance with business management processes.
Identify and manage Rolling Stock and Depot technical and systems integration risks.
Ensure a satisfactory level of health and safety through taking reasonable care of own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role

The principal project works covered by the job holder’s professional responsibilities are:
Rolling Stock and Infrastructure technical compatibility/ integration.
Technical Risk analysis.
The job holder is required to:
Set and maintain a high level of professional performance.
Ensure an appropriate quality and consistency of approach across the Rolling Stock through an internal team and with external consultants.
Prepare reports for submission to the Executive Committee.
Attend meetings and make presentations at appropriate levels, up to and including, Board meetings.
Representing to the railway industry and suppliers.
Person Specification
Essential
Professional qualifications to C.Eng. level in electrical or mechanical engineering or an associated discipline or equivalent experience.
Substantial experience in the design, construction or management of railway works or substantial experience in railway operations
A comprehensive understanding of the issues affecting railway systems.
A good working knowledge of the UK railway industry.
Knowledge of interoperability Regulations and requirements.
Experience of establishing contracting strategies.
Value techniques and the achievement of value for money.
Experience in the management of leading consultants and staff.
Excellent inter-personal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi
disciplined management team.
Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills.
