Job Title: Rolling Stock Test Leader / Manager
Location: Milton Keynes
Salary: Circa £24 an hour (ltd)
Job Type: 6-12 month contract
Job Details:
*Overall responsibility for all aspects of EHSQ activities within the test facilities ensuring; high standards are maintained
*Overall responsibility for all aspect of EHSQ activities involved with moving rolling stock both onsite and off-site, ensure full compliance of both local and network rail procedures
*Ensure team outputs satisfy delivery, quality, cost and quantity requirements and lead continuous improvement activities through management of the top-level plan requirements, with particular attention on man hours and resources efficiencies
*Manage, develop and maintain high standards of employee performance and productivity.
*Motivate teams to be proactive in achieving targets
*Manage both the test and movement Team Leaders and their staff on a day to day basis
*Manage and administer the Company disciplinary and grievance processes; the time and attendance policy and consult with senior management and local trade union representatives to ensure that the employees in the jobholder's care treated in a fair and equitable manner. Take disciplinary actions where necessary
*Manage and review the team and individual performance, competencies and work methods as part of a continuous development process and to ensure that business values and goals are met.
*Professional management of the communication and co-operation with internal/external customers to ensure events/problems/issues are resolve effectively and efficiently.
*Create and manage Personal Development Plans for all team members with the Training and Competency team, to generate a highly flexible workforce which can be mobilised across the businesses needs as and when
*Ensure all team members understand their roles, responsibilities and performance objectives.
*Ensure work undertaken has been authorised by the customer through approval to work from the Project Manager
*Responsible for all movement equipment and tooling
*Responsible for the test equipment and tooling including calibration
*Responsible for the testing documentation completion in line with the vehicle output dates
*Report testing progress to management team in a simple standard format
*Responsibility for housekeeping in the testing facilities, all vehicles under test control, movement facilities and the yard.
*Liaise with the project team and the customers to assist with the customer inspections
*Create and drive the process improvements within the test and movement department
*Supporting all quality processes and instructions, ensuring the members of the team meet or exceed expectations
*Implement and control a strategic training schedule for the staff in both the test and movements team
*Creates and drives the Zero-Defect Culture, holding meetings with the team, quality department and other functions as required
*Ensure faults and defects are reported back to production to allow reduction of repeat defects
*Helping and supporting the site strategic plans within operations and is an active player in the culture changes
*Sustaining the process and discipline of Vehicle History Books and associated documentation
*Responsible for the control and application of Fitness to Run examinations
*Maintain a weekly, monthly and yearly testing schedule for the test team on resource and physical capacity
*Involvement in the acceptance of vehicles into the test area from production
*Encourage lean techniques and events within the test and movements department changing the culture
*Ensure any off-site test activities are controlled using risk assessments and method statements
*To determine and implement the training needs identified for the efficient utilisation of staff and resources.
*To complete all Staff Dialogues with the Test and movements team
*Assume the role of Head of Shared Services, when requested by the Operations Director
Educational Requirements & Relating Experience:
*NVQ Level 3 or higher
*Rolling Stock Testing experience preferred
*Experience of a managing and developing a team
*Organisation, communication, influencing and decision-making skills
*Experience of, and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products
*Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
Competencies:
*Self-starter with ability to develop strong, constructive and focused relationships with internal stakeholders is essential
*Proven ability to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate excellent negotiation skills; including integration within all levels within the organisation structure is essential
*Strong Team Player
