Location – London, Stratford Place (or home or Cambridge – flexible location)
Daily Rates £263.62

About the role / project:
Identify and generate new commercial opportunities, leading to new freight income on the relevant route. Act as the key interface with the Route, providing specialist freight knowledge and support, protecting Network Rail’s commercial position. The role will require regular site visits to look after FOC’s in the Southern Region and covering the Anglian Region covering Barking, Peterborough, Ipswich, Stratford, Felixstowe and Kings Lynn. This role is looking after the FOC’s and freight end users.
- Act as the initial point of contact for all routine inquiries on the route for all freight issues and monitor whether queries and requests are handled in an effective manner.
- Assist in addressing specific freight issues raised within Network Rail, appertaining to the route.
- Identify with customers performance improvement initiatives, which can be progressed using 6-sigma or other methodology, to deliver customer and Network Rail benefits.
- Collate details of any additional freight costs, which are outside current access rights, and monitor whether they are invoiced to the relevant freight customer.
- Identify and champion specific projects relating to the freight customers.
- Maintain, update and negotiate connection agreements on the line of route, to maximise income to Network Rail.
- Collate details of freight traffic changes and supply to colleagues to assist with maintenance strategies.
- Attend, as required, line of route meetings, and represent freight’s interest whilst protecting Network Rail’s commercial position.

About You
Essential
- Freight experience
- Rail experience (FOC and NWR ideal but not essential)
- Commercial understanding/experience and knowledge of commercial companies that use the railway and the challenges that it presents
- Stakeholder management
- Rail operational background – ideal (understanding of how the whole railway comes together)
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience
- Commercially astute, persuasive and customer focussed
- Proven ability to negotiate in a complex commercial environment
- Knowledge of relevant contracts and contractual environment
- Experience of managing contractual relationships
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience in the freight railway business
- Knowledge and understanding of LEAN and continuous improvement methodologies
