We are seeking a Site Manager (Surveys) to join our Aviation division survey team covering works at Heathrow and Gatwick airports as well as other safety critical infrastructure projects.
Our Survey team provides Dyer & Butler and its clients with high standard utility, land, and basic topographic surveys. They also provide invaluable support to other divisional teams and departments within design and construction phases of projects.
The Site Manager will report into the Project Manager.Purpose:
- Work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, Land & Utility Surveyors, Engineers and Quantity Surveyors to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner whilst client’s requirements and expectations are maintained or exceeded.
- To manage construction (survey) on site in order to achieve required project delivery to the clients’ objectives, while maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the site works aiming to achieve or exceed commercial requirements of the business.
- Check accuracy of construction operations to ensure compliance with specification.
- Assist Project Manager in compiling project documentation including risk assessments, methodologies, various SHEQ plans, CPP briefing documents, permits etc.
- Ensure effective daily briefings and point-of-work briefings are established and implemented including effective feedback process.
- Demonstrate tender knowledge, awareness of outputs and assumptions; integrate into production plans.
- Demonstrate competency in management and supervision of resources, including subcontractors.
- Hold responsibility for managing the budget.
- Perform Line Manager duties ensuring that the team is supported and provided with necessary tools and resources to achieve set goals at the organisational and individual level.
- Proactively seek and provide clarification and guidance through effective use of Request for Information from designers/client bodies and through collaboration with management team and wider business support functions.
- Avoid operational delay by identifying and resolving ambiguities in advance. Interrogate project details to avoid delays on site.
- Proactively review drawings during design development to ensure buildability.
- Ensure compliance with inspection and test plan.
- Implement effective capture and notification of change events.
- Issue and manage task specific permits.
- Manage procurement schedules and timely ordering of plant, materials and resources in line with programme requirements.
- Collaborate with commercial and project management team to ensure timely procurement and management of sub-contractor resources.
- Plan, establish, implement and maintain safe working conditions through regular safety tours and positive interventions ensuring compliance with CDM responsibilities.
- Act as an ambassador for Close Call reporting driving a positive reporting culture throughout entire site team.
- Drive productivity through effective management, with a wealth of knowledge of health and safety and quality aspects.
- Take ownership of safe implementation of temporary works solutions on site. Act as a Temporary Works Supervisor (where appropriate).
- Take ownership of safe implementation of excavation procedures on site. Act as a Service Protection Co-ordinator (where appropriate).
- Motivate and coordinate all personnel on site to work in a safe, productive and harmonious environment.
- Develop, produce and monitor short duration detailed look-ahead programmes complimenting overall project programme and ensure adequate resources are obtained and provided for timely delivery.
- Take ownership and manage collation of accurate site records including daily diaries, allocation sheets, progress photos, inspection records and as-built programmes.
- Use knowledge and experience to propose alternatives to overcome any issues supporting best practice and innovation from the wider construction industry.
- Implement the requirements of the Company Management System (CMS), as applicable to the business operations.
- Keep up to date with current legislation and industry trends.
Role Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Scope, estimate, plan, run and deliver client needs with high standards of information, documents, and work reports.
- Efficiently and simultaneously managing multiple projects across various sectors and locations
- Undertake duties of a Lead Land & Utility Surveyor and CAD Manager as defined in Role Profile when Lead Land & Utility Surveyor & CAD Manager is unavailable.
- Support the team and other departments with CAD and survey needs and associated standards at Level 5 QCF in Utility Mapping and Surveying or above, providing expertise in the following areas (GPR scanners, PAS128, GPS, Total Station, laser scanners and RD8000 equipment, high-standard 2D and 3D CAD drawing)
- Authority in Service Protection at Heathrow and support for other sectors (Wider Aviation, Highways and Rail)
- Accountable for survey and service-related standards and associated RAMS.
- Formal qualification in Civil Engineering/working towards it or equivalent.
- Proven capability of delivering technical packages in civil engineering schemes.
- Experience in running civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Confident and conversant in subcontractor supervision.
- Excellent communicator with client teams and third parties as well as site management.
- Recognised site safety management course.
- CSCS Managers card.
- Working knowledge of NEC contract conditions, CDM regulations, Design Management.
- Programme and Risk Management and cost control including forecasting; actual cost and value reporting.
- Good knowledge of specifications and testing regime relevant to general civil engineering.
- Knowledge of the requirements of safety/environmental legislation.
