Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all.
The Subway has been modernised twice in its history with the previous modernisation taking place in the late 1970s. We are currently undertaking a £288m transformational project which will result in the Subway being one of the most advanced systems in Europe. In 2018 at InnoTrans, Stadler (part of our joint venture delivery contractor ANSTA) unveiled the first new Subway train, the first of which have now started to arrive in Glasgow. As work on Subway Modernisation continues at pace this year, we are seeking a Technical Trainer & Competence Manager who will work with external and internal stakeholders to design and deliver technical training, competence assessment and internal verification for maintenance of subway assets. You will also be responsible for skills migration and transition from legacy fleet to new technology associated with new rolling stock, signalling and control systems. You will develop a plan of training to ensure the Subway continues to deliver for its customers throughout this exciting and challenging time, while transforming our operating model to deliver the modernised Subway.
About the Role
As a member of the Maintenance management team, you will be responsible for managing the planning and delivery of appropriate training programmes for staff within budget. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate training and competence management records to ensure that SPT meet all legislative and industry training requirements, including ORR and ROGS.
About You
The successful candidate will have relevant qualifications in training delivery and competence assessment (City & Guilds, MOI or equivalent) as well as an in-depth understanding of maintenance principles across a wide range of disciplines in a fully integrated railway or relevant safety critical industry. You will have experience in a safety critical environment as well as experience of service delivery demands and maintenance support. You will have demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills to facilitate knowledge transfer and develop staff.
A highly motivated, reliable and capable individual with planning skills you will be experienced in delivering training for complex maintenance activities. You will use your influencing and communication skills to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure our staff are trained and competent as we move forward.

The nature of this role may require you to work outwith normal office hours on occasion to support the operational requirements of an organisation with staff who work a variety of shift patterns. This may include nightshift or weekend working.
You will be based at Broomloan Depot, Govan, Glasgow.
