Overview of project
Crossrail is the new high frequency, high capacity railway for London and the South East. When the service opens as the Elizabeth Line, trains will travel from Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east via new tunnels under central London. This remarkable railway will take 72,000 passengers where they need to be, each and every hour.
Role Scope
The Traffic Manager will regulate and run the provision of services through the safe operation of signalling, electrical and control systems and the application of relevant standards, rules and procedures in order to minimise the impact of service disruption whilst continuing to meet the statutory, business and route performance requirements.
TfL Traffic Manager’s utilise key interfaces with Drivers, Signallers and Controllers for collaborative working and exchanging real time information pertaining to the safe movement and control of trains. You will also work closely with Customer Service Managers for exchanging real time information and Incident Response Managers for collaborative working exchanging real time information pertaining to incidents and other events. Furthermore, collaboration with Infrastructure Maintenance Teams for collaborative response to failures and access planning for maintenance activities is key.
Key Accountabilties
• Comply with relevant standards, rules and working procedures pertaining to the safe movement and control of trains and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate risk and exposure to loss.
• Manage and operate the signalling control system where competent, to regulate the safe movement control of trains.
• Manage and operate the electrical control, tunnel ventilation and central management where competent, to ensure the safe performance of the network.
• Manage and operate the performance monitoring and delay attribution system where competent, to ensure delays are accurately recorded and attributed to responsible managers.
• Manage and implement risk control measures that provision safe and efficient access to the network whilst minimising service disruption.
• Manage and implement risk control measures to ensure systems and resources are sufficient to meet the minimum operating requirement.
• Oversee the application of risk control measures for safety critical work to ensure compliance with the safety management system.
• Support the continuous professional development of people including apprentice and graduate trainees as required to maintain the capability of the business and build a culture of high performance.
Skills
• Ability to communicate and influence effectively with rail industry stakeholders.
• Ability to plan course of action for self and others, running time, resources and surrounding circumstances to deliver objectives.
• Ability to safely operate signalling & control systems.
• Ability to work to clear and concise operating instructions and procedures.
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplined team.
• Ability to work within a busy control room environment
Knowledge
• Deep knowledge of Network Rail and Train Operating Companies within the route and the key aspects of their business.
• Deep knowledge of Train Operator performance regime and targets.
• Geographical knowledge of applicable route.
Experience
• Leading and communicating critical action in real time.
• Planning and implementing contingency arrangements in real time.
• Managing, responding and recording information in real time.
• Working within control, logistics or operational environments.
