Job Role: Planning and Controls Manager

Project: Transpennine Route Upgrade

Location: Manchester

Duration: 6 months rolling contract (long term)

Day rate: £600 - £700 per day (Umbrella - inside IR35)

Summary of the Planning Manager:

I'm currently recruiting for a Planning Manager to work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade project on a long term contract based in either Manchester or Leeds.

The successful candidate will represent the company in the planning and delivery of the project, receive instructions on behalf of the company and to issue instruction and provide direction in order to ensure the successful delivery of project assigned by Senior Management.

Responsibilities of the Planning Manager:

  • Deliver the works safely.
  • Complete understanding of all the project objectives.
  • Build, develop, support and maintain the team.
  • Build and maintain a good relationship with the client and all external parties.
  • Delivering Project Controls across the project as a whole.
  • Lead the programme controls function, monitoring for accuracy and consistency of plans, cost, safety, environment and performance reporting, and deploying available controls team resources to best effect.
  • Establish effective control processes in compliance with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) and as directed by the Programme Controller and maintain these at Territory / Project level.
  • Provide guidance and direction to project, resource and works planners, assuring quality and consistency of all planning, documentation and associated reports.
  • Review and co-ordinate the work of staff to so the correct planning support is provided to the project team with the programmes of work.
  • Forecast key milestone and critical path issues to members of the team, providing recommendations for corrective solutions.
  • Manage development of individuals and the engagement of the team.
  • Co-ordinate the arrangements for provision of access and resources to deliver programmes of work.
  • Develop, distribute and agree cost effective annual programmes of work.

Requirements of the Planning Manager:

  • Degree educated or equivalent experience.
  • Technical and management abilities
  • Organisational and management skills
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures.
  • Minimum of 20 years relevant Railway Planning and Management experience.
  • Knowledge of operational railway environment.
  • Working knowledge of GRIP.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of planning processes and systems.
  • Good Problem solving Skills.
  • Commercial Awareness.
  • Experience with planning softwares such as Primavera P6
