Location: Birmingham
Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience plus package including:
- 4k car allowance
- Up to 5% pension contribution matched

Summary
A successful management company that plans, manages and controls large and complex projects in and has expertise in the design and engineering phases of projects across the Transportation, Aviation, Energy, Utilities, Defence and Vertical build sectors is looking to take on an experienced Planner to join their growing team to developing robust and underpinned programmes for delivery of work-packages
Primary responsibilities and accountabilities
- Liaising with planning and scheduling counterparts in contractor's project teams; analyse and track contractor's baseline programmes.
- Assessing and reporting on contractor's programmes, under NEC3 (Option C), to support the Project Manager's acceptance.
- Developing robust and coherent programmes, reflecting the correct scope of work, from the contractor's programme in conjunction with the delivery teams, to maintain associated baseline programmes.
- Attend and contribute to all appropriate meetings on behalf of the Planning team or delivery team as appropriate.
- Support the Project Master Programme development, integration, and reporting
- Provide support to the Project Manager, to resolve any programme non-conformities that may arise, and develop user-friendly means of communicating the programme.
- Recognise areas for programme and schedule improvement and communicate as appropriate to the Senior Planner / Project Controls Manager.
- To provide budget and schedule forecasting for the programme - including the development of resource loaded and cost loaded schedules (with support from the Senior Planner).
- Review and advise on programme risk and mitigation measures for delay recovery on critical activities.
- Monitor and report on Key Dates; programme milestones; and interface milestones.
- Participate in the period end reporting process, including collation of actuals, measurement of performance (site based or office based as applicable), updating of the schedule, production of reports to advise on progress against baseline and variances.
- Maintain standards to ensure compliance with existing policies and practices and meet expectations of the stakeholders - accept and promote potential challenges with the intention of striving for improvement.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including third parties and strategic suppliers.
- Share best practice with peers to ensure that learning from experience is enabled.
- Mentor and coach Junior Planning personnel - to encourage their personal and professional development via provision of oversight.
- Deputise for the Senior Planner as and when required.
Qualifications and Training
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience working within a similar or related role
- Proven track record of Planning / Project Controls responsibility
- Project Management fundamentals via accreditation preferred (e.g., MAPM, PMI)
- Qualified to Degree level - preferably: Engineering or Project Management
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to work under own initiative; proactive and able to challenge; able to build rapport and constructive relationships with all areas of the project.
- Capable of operating in a matrix organisation, balancing and meeting the requirements of multiple reporting lines and stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in complex situations
- Pragmatic approach to scheduling; able to promote planning and scheduling best practice; willing to be flexible and offer to help other team members as and when required.
- Ability to interact and engage with cross-functional, multi-disciplinary groups to challenge and optimise holistically.
- Experience of operating within partnering and / or alliancing arrangements.
- User of Primavera P6 (8.2 preferred).
- Experienced in the use of the Microsoft Office suite
- Expert user of Microsoft Excel / access
- Knowledge of risk management software (e.g., SAFRAN) and QSRA would be useful.
