TRU is a once-in-a-generation rail upgrade programme to deliver faster, longer, more frequent and more reliable rail services across the north of England, from Newcastle, Hull and York towards Manchester and Liverpool via Leeds. Amey, in partnership with Arup, BAM and Network Rail is upgrading the route between Manchester and Leeds, which includes civils, track, railway systems and electrification. The role
You will support Construction Managers as well as giving guidance to engineers on their projects. As the Lead on the engineering and technical activities you will facilitate conformance to contract specification and delivery to programme timescales.
Key accountabilities
You will:
- Manage engineering on allocated projects, this will include support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions (design, install and test) over changes; and interfacing with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings).
- Advise Construction Managers on the engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, and provide engineering reviews of method statements and risk assessments proposed.
- Perform and record briefings of technical updates to the project team, sub-contractors and promote best practice.
- Pro-actively identify resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities.
- Ensure Supply Chain Partners are supported and appropriately challenged on technical matters to enable effective delivery and report findings from site surveys to Design.
- Produce and implement an in-process inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements.
- Guide the Site Supervisors on engineering requirements and specification issues, including marking out of sites and ensure each stage of construction is acceptable and signed off before works progress.
- Mentor other engineers across project boundaries (where required).
- Ensure mandatory training and competency certifications for all staff are valid and copies available.
Skills & experience
- HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar approved qualification.
- Conversant with company safety, procurement, and quality procedures.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise, ProjectMapper, and TrackRecord systems.
- Project experience (preferably 2 years) - “hands-on” site experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge and site experience of using Engineering and Surveying equipment (Trimble, Mephisto, and Amber trolley).
- Satisfy requirements of PTS medical.
- PTS / IWA.
- Personal Highways Safety.
- IOSH working safely.
