Customs Import and Export Controller
£30-35/hour
Candidate can be based at any Client site across the UK as convenient, predominantly home-working with some time at one of Clients central locations.
Initial 5 Month Contract - end date 31/03/2020
Role Summary:
A customs specialist within supply chain function who will have overall accountability for ensuring compliance of customs operations, managing through a 3PL brokerage service. Enabling smooth material flows for inbound and outbound material and resolving any issues that may arise. Must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of UK Import and Export regulations.
Role Responsibilities:
Responsible for the;
*Preparations of the business for Brexit to ensure that there is Supply Chain continuity
*Collation of accurate data and validation of all required documentation prior to issuing to the broker in charge of customs declarations
*Ongoing validation that Customs procedures for import/export are correctly applied taking into account the basic principles when importing/exporting/transiting goods as regards to Customs declarations, application of specific regimes, origin rules and Customs valuation
*Monitoring and resolution of potential non-compliance situations
*Identification of potential risks across the different operational Customs activities so as to propose mitigation plans
*Oversight of processes and submissions to ensure that legal requirements are met to receive and maintain the relevant customs authorizations
*Broad education of Client team members to enable customs efficiency through the provision of advice and coaching based on customs best practice & expertise
*Detailed training of the site logistics teams to improve customs requirements awareness and improve efficiency
*Adherence to any financial and accounting aspects related to customs clearance operations
*Monitoring and reporting of customs operational performance (productivity and quality) to the country/site management as well as to central Tax & customs dept
*Interface into the Country Customs authorities and other relevant parties in relation to specific cases, acting as single point of contact and managing communications
*As part of worldwide customs sites referents network, share the return of experience and good practices with the other regions
*Understanding, interpreting and deploying any changes to customs regulatory requirements that may impact the UK business logistics organisation
*Deployment of global customs procedure in UK taking into account country specificities
Additional Knowledge/ Skills:
*Knowledge of International Trade / Customs Law /Supply Chain
*Knowledge of Customs regulations: Harmonized customs classification / origin rules / customs valuation rules / Free Trade Agreements
