SLC Operations is a licensed train operator and approved to train and assess train drivers. We are also one of only two companies in the UK able to deliver End Point Assessments for apprentice train drivers.

To support growing demand from clients across the UK, in all rail sectors, we are looking for up to 12 outstanding qualified or trainee Driver Instructors.

Successful applicants will have a valid ETDL, excellent safety record and good route and traction competence.

As one of our team, you will need a professional, can do approach and the skills needed to help develop innovative training materials; deliver practical and classroom training; consistent and fair assessments; and provide students and clients with outstanding customer service.

Qualified DIs will already hold an A1 assessor qualification (or equivalent). Our DIs salaries start at
£65,000 pa (full time). Exceptional train drivers – with at least 5 years driving experience and an ambition to become an instructor – can apply as a trainee Driver Instructor. We will fund your “Train the Trainer” and A1 Assessor qualifications and support you through them. Your salary will start at £62,000 pa (full time), increasing to a DI rate once you are qualified and able to instruct on your own.

All DIs drive a range of traction throughout the UK as well as training and assessing so they stay up to date, in touch and competent. Full time contracts provide an average 35-hour week (1820 hours), pension and 33 days leave (15 days floating) per year.

Our new Rail Academy is in Kings Norton, Birmingham, but jobs could be anywhere in the UK so you must be able and willing to travel. Wherever possible home working is also supported.
