The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Maintainer Operator to join VolkerRail Plant working within the POM department. The primary machine of focus will be the Beaver Tamper but there will be an expectation to learn auxiliary competencies relating to other machines within the fleet.

Key Accountabilities

The key duties will include:

• Responsible for assisting with the safe operations and carrying out operating, servicing, maintenance, repairs, overhauls etc., of Possession Only Machines (POM's) to the relevant laid down technical and safety standards.
• Assisting to ensure all paperwork relevant to the role is kept up to date and returned to the correct parties in a timely manner.
• Record all work carried out on the relevant document and sign off all work done. Ensure that work is verified accordingly with the relevant supervision.
• Obtain materials from stores and return defective materials correctly labelled for warranty, repair or scrapping as required by laid down procedure.
• Train and operate new types of equipment as per the department's requirements/circumstances where competent to do so.
• The discharge of safety critical duties and responsibilities within this JD / SRS and any other safety critical competencies are mandatory upon the post holder.

Skills & Experience

The candidate will also ideally have the following experience and skill set:

• Be either a trained apprentice in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or possess an NVQ level 3 (mechanical or electrical) or equivalent.
• Ideally have had Apprentice Training with HNC or above in an engineering discipline.
• Experience of fault finding and a servicing background as a Fitter and Electrician.
• A responsible attitude and high level of safety awareness.

Flexibility is also essential for this role as there will be travel and weekend working.
