Freightliner is now recruiting for Trainee Shunt Drivers to join us at our Southampton rail terminal.Previous experience in rail operations would be beneficial for this role although any necessary training will be provided for the right applicant to attain the required competence of driving locomotives, shunting heavy freight trains and other associated tasks such as loco refuelling and vehicle maintenance/inspections.Key responsibilities include the driving of locomotives using a variety of traction units, within an off-network marshalling yard in accordance with railway rules and regulations.

Requirements:

• Train driving experience preferred but not essential
• Clean full UK driving license
• Excellent safety critical awareness and ability to communicate clearly
• Ability to follow rules and instructions
• Excellent concentration and observational skills
• Customer focused and committed to the company brand
• You must live within 60 minutes’ drive of the Southampton rail terminal

The Selection Process:

There are several stages to the selection process, in conjunction with OPC, as below. Candidates will need to pass each stage in order to move on to the next:

1. Completion of an online questionnaire which must be accessed by following the link below
2. Completion of two online psychometric tests
3. Stage 1 Assessment Centre
4. Stage 2 Assessment Centre
5. If you’ve been successful in all stages above, you’ll be invited in for an interview with Freightliner management

Selected candidates will then be required to fulfil certain pre-employment checks, including a railway standards medical with drugs and alcohol test.

Important Dates:

• Stage 1 Assessment Centres – 29th and 30th October 2019
• Stage 2 Assessment Centres – 18th – 26th November 2019
