A leading global construction and engineering company are currently recruiting for an Environmental Clerk of Works to work on the Aberdeen Harbour project worth £350m.
Purpose of the job
* This role involves providing Environmental Clerk of Works (ECOW) duties to ensure that environmental quality standards and the commitments within the consent documents are adhered to during the construction of Aberdeen Harbour Expansion Project (AHEP).
* The ECOW will be based on site for the complete duration of construction activities and will work on both terrestrial and marine aspects of the project.
* The ECOW will be responsible for a number of surveys, implementation of mitigation measures and maintaining a full record of the progress of environmental works. In particular, the ECOW will work closely with and report to the Environmental Manager on the implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for ensuring all necessary ECOW duties as described within the CEMPs are completed including:
Vegetation checks & watching briefs prior to & during site clearance works
Otter, breeding bird and other surveys (either undertaking or managing their implementation)
Monitor and advise on mitigation, habitat creation & enhancement schemes
Site monitoring for protected/invasive species constraints
* Responsible for working with marine contractor implementing mitigation in the marine environment ensuring all necessary records are kept and drafting or compiling reports as required.
* Delivering Tool Box Talks and briefing sessions for the construction team
* Responsible for maintaining a full record of the progress on implementation of CEMPs including the landscape, ecological, archaeological and other environmental aspects.
* Inspect materials and goods for compliance with the stated standards and to make sure that they are properly stored and protected
* Regular client/contractor/stakeholder liaison
* Regular liaison with Environmental disciplines.
* On-site meetings with contractor/construction manager/environment manager
* Advising contractor/client on public liaison relating to ecological issues
* Maintain a full record of the progress, as required by the company's Environmental Management System, of the Environmental Works and maintain an activity schedule for purposes of recording progress with environmental works and invoicing
* Obtaining instructions for unforeseen and additional works beyond current scope and issue of early warnings relating to project risk
* Working closely with the Environmental and Consents Manager, Environmental Administrator, Community Liaison Manager to maintain the Consents Register, Consents Programme, Know your Consent document and other consenting and environmental documentation
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:
* At least 3 years previous experience as an ECOW on a construction project, ideally a port or harbour development.
* Previous experience of working practically and flexibly across a broad array of environmental aspects ideally including experience in the marine and terrestrial environments.
* Previous experience completing ECOW duties such as habitat surveys, monitoring and implementing mitigation
* Previous experience working within an Environmental Management System (EMS)
* Previous experience building constructive relationships with both the construction team employed and other stakeholders
* Previous experience implementing Construction Environmental Management Plans
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate articulately
* Resilient with the confidence and courage to challenge behaviours and issues
Qualifications Required:
* Suitable scientific / environmental engineering based technical/professional qualification such as Degree, HNC or equivalent experience
