As a Shunter your role will include various tasks such as: Liaise with relevant persons in charge and signal box for control of movements as defined in the Depot Operating Procedures.
Principal Accountabilities
- Marshall of units as required.
- Control and reporting of the arrival and departure of trains to depot and liaise with relevant staff.
- Notification of apparent defects (e.g., including interior condition, facility, infrastructure) via appropriate reporting system.
- Maintain and compile records & logs (e.g., shunting paperwork, daily/weekly information).
- General housekeeping of facilities and areas within operating department
- Other operational duties (e.g., planned audits, checks, infrastructure inspections).
- Control of appropriate depot systems in accordance with the Depot Protection procedures
Knowledge & Experience
- Must have relevant experience in a rail / shuntering environment
- Understands and cares for tools, equipment and PPE as appropriate
- Knowledge of Health & Safety including bio-hazards, manual handling and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- In date Shuntering licence / qualifications
