HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: MEP Architectural Package Engineer

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role: The MEP Architectural Package Engineer is responsible for coordinating and managing the interfaces between Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health (MEP) services and architectural works across the project lifecycle. The role ensures architectural packages and MEP installations are fully coordinated, integrated, and delivered in accordance with project requirements, programme objectives, quality standards, and client expectations. This includes managing builder's work requirements, service penetrations, specialist architectural finishes, ceilings, partitions, risers, plant spaces, and commissioning access requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

Design Coordination

  • Coordinate architectural and MEP design information throughout all project stages.
  • Review drawings, specifications, BIM models, and technical submissions.
  • Manage interfaces between MEP services and architectural elements.

Package Management

  • Manage architectural packages that directly impact MEP installations and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor package progress against project milestones.

IM & Digital Engineering

  • Work within BIM and digital construction environments.
  • Support clash detection and model coordination processes.
  • Review federated models to identify and resolve interface issues.
  • Ensure information is maintained in accordance with project BIM standards and ISO 19650 requirements.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in MEP Engineering, Architectural Coordination, Package Engineering, Design Management, or Building Services.
  • Strong understanding of architectural construction and building services integration.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary interfaces on construction projects.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational abilities.
