HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Assistant Buyer – Procurement

Location:

Based at Fort Dunlop – this location sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, adjacent to the M6 motorway, providing excellent transport links into the city and across the region. Fort Dunlop serves as a key hub within IPT Area North, supporting operations that span multiple sublots and regional activities. Its strategic position makes it an important point for coordination and access, with proximity to major infrastructure routes ensuring connectivity to both the Central Region and wider project areas.

Role description:

• Facilitate an efficient and compliant process for all subcontract & material procurement within a sublot area of the project.

• Carrying out supplier evaluations and commercial checks for suppliers and past performance, and ensure actions are taken through to completion.

• Supporting the procurement teams with tendering, market analysis, supplier selection, risk and opportunity assessments, forecasting requirements, and associated reporting.

• Support the development of procurement plans and packaging strategies

• Assist in the development of efficient value-added reports

• Focus on exceeding minimum service expectations by delivering an agile, value adding service with a deep understanding of customer requirements, technical competence, functional knowledge and process efficiency

• Demonstrate the BBV behaviours

• Collaborate relentlessly

• Ensure a relentless focus on Health & Safety

Essential Experience:

• Enthusiasm and results focus, together with an ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines

• Excellent analytical skills

• Commercial awareness

• A measured approach to decision making and the ability to ensure best value procurement

• Attention to detail

• Financial acumen

• Proven ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
