Rail Commercial Manager

Location: Hybrid Working | Manchester, Leeds or York

Contract Length: Long-Term

Tired of short-term contracts and constant uncertainty about what's next?

If you're a Commercial Manager working in rail infrastructure and want the security of a long-term programme without giving up the flexibility of contracting, this opportunity could be exactly what you're looking for.

You'll join a major infrastructure programme with years of secured work ahead, supporting the delivery of projects that are critical to the future performance and reliability of the UK's rail network. Rather than spending time searching for your next assignment, you'll be able to focus on what you do best - driving commercial performance and influencing project success.

The Opportunity

As a Rail Commercial Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial management of a portfolio of rail infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to final account.

You'll work alongside project delivery teams, planners, engineers and supply chain partners, ensuring projects are commercially robust, risks are effectively managed and opportunities are maximised throughout the project lifecycle.

This is an environment where commercial professionals are viewed as key decision-makers rather than administrators, giving you the opportunity to influence strategy, challenge assumptions and add genuine value to project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the commercial management of rail infrastructure projects and frameworks.
  • Managing project cost reporting, forecasting and financial performance.
  • Overseeing subcontractor procurement, negotiation and account management.
  • Administering NEC contracts and managing contractual compliance.
  • Leading compensation event, variation and change control processes.
  • Identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Supporting project teams with commercial advice and decision-making.
  • Reviewing applications for payment and managing client-facing commercial activities.
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts.
  • Producing commercial reports and providing strategic updates to senior stakeholders.

What's In It For You?

  • Long-term contract offering genuine stability and continuity.
  • Opportunity to work on some of the UK's most significant rail infrastructure programmes.
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Hybrid working arrangements that provide flexibility around office and home working.
  • A collaborative environment where your commercial expertise will influence key project decisions.
  • Consistent project pipeline, reducing the uncertainty often associated with contract positions.
  • The chance to work alongside experienced industry professionals on high-profile programmes.

About You

You'll likely have experience working within rail, infrastructure, civil engineering or major projects environments and be confident managing commercial activities across the full project lifecycle.

You'll be comfortable working with NEC forms of contract and have experience managing cost reporting, change control, subcontractor management and commercial risk.

Whether you're already operating as a Commercial Manager or are a Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to step into a broader commercial leadership role, this position offers the opportunity to play a significant part in a long-term infrastructure programme.
