HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Utility Data Coordinator

Location:

Based at Fort Dunlop – this location sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, adjacent to the M6 motorway, providing excellent transport links into the city and across the region. Fort Dunlop serves as a key hub within IPT Area North, supporting operations that span multiple sublots and regional activities. Its strategic position makes it an important point for coordination and access, with proximity to major infrastructure routes ensuring connectivity to both the Central Region and wider project areas.

Role description:

• Update GIS systems (I-Spatial) with accurate as-built utility information following construction activities.

• Digitise and attribute installed assets using survey data, red-line mark-ups and construction records.

• Ensure all recorded assets accurately reflect location, depth, material, size and connectivity.

• Maintain structured geospatial datasets in accordance with approved data schemas and naming conventions.

• Maintain live tracking information and performance reporting against agreed KPIs.

• Compare design models, drawings and specifications against as-built surveys and red-line drawings.

• Identify and record deviations, clashes, omissions or inaccuracies between design and construction records.

• Verify that approved design changes are correctly represented within final as-built records.

• Import, process and validate topographical, PAS 128, GPS and total station survey data.

• Verify survey accuracy against project tolerances and quality requirements.

• Ensure survey metadata is correctly recorded.

• Reject or return incomplete or non-compliant survey submissions.

• Maintain GIS layers for utilities, chambers, ducts, cables, pipes and associated assets.

• Support integration between GIS, BIM, CAD and asset management systems.

• Undertake routine audits to maintain data quality and consistency.

• Ensure compliance with PAS 128, Uniclass 2015 and project requirements.

• Support audits, assurance reviews and handover activities.

• Liaise with site teams, surveyors, designers, digital engineering teams, utility providers and asset owners.

• Provide guidance on as-built data capture requirements.

• Support reporting, handover packs and auditable records.

• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Essential Experience:

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Utilities, Construction or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

• Experience using GIS software including I-Spatial and G-Viewer.

• Understanding utility construction, asset records and surveying processes.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, utility records and CAD information.

• Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

• Experience using Microsoft Office and project information management systems.
