A pivotal commercial role at the heart of fleet performance and reliability. You will shape the commercial backbone of operational UK rail fleet.

The role & about you

This is an exciting time to join a busy rail company to manage engineering services contracts. You will be an independent driving force within engineering contracts, responsible for overseeing contractual management of all engineering services across designated rolling stock fleet.

You will have the responsibility for ensuring that the engineering services needs of your allocated fleets are met – either via enforcing existing contractual agreements, sourcing and negotiating new supplier agreements or pursuing options within existing contracts. You will be commercially minded and consider the TCO/TCM within all decision making. You will liaise with engineering professionals both internally and externally who have responsibility for parts/equipment, fleet condition & performance and overall fleet cots. This is a commercial engineering position and support will be given within finance and procurement to help you achieve your goals.

Duties will include:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including engineering services companies, equipment manufacturers and regulatory bodies and fleet stakeholders to ensure fleet engineering needs are met.
  • Understand and translate practical engineering needs from the internal end users to viable commercial contracts with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with financial, commercial, legal and procurement teams where needed on new contracts sourcing / negotiation and financial modelling.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ideally a minimum of HNC in an engineering related discipline or an academic background in finance/economics or legal with in-depth experience supporting or working within a technical engineering department.
  • Experience of the rail sector in particular managing either the operations, procurement, negotiation, financial cost modelling or delivery of fleet related contracts. This may be from an engineering, fleet management, commercial, analytical or contract management position.
  • Ideally have a strong understanding of basic engineering contracts within rolling stock such as TSSAs, TSAs, MSAs and/or other engineering services agreements.
  • Practical and solutions minded – this role will be required to write and manage engineering contracts. Legal, procurement and engineering technical support will be available however the ability to manage the contract itself, contracting processes and commercials will be the sole responsibility of the post holder.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong at developing positive internal and external relationship to ensure practical delivery of contracts and effectively support the commercial interests of the company.
  • Ideally familiar with basic procurement processes in the UK rail industry, including competitive tendering, approvals processes and safety certification. Support is available from the procurement department, especially for competitive tendering of high value contracts.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to assess complex engineering requirements and communicate needs with both internal and external stakeholders. Having a background in engineering would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience working closely within or with a ROSCO or OEM on fleet contract delivery or management would be highly advantageous.
