HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Foreperson
Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Key Accountabilities:
- Supervise and coordinate construction activities within assigned work areas.
- Lead site operatives and subcontractors, ensuring tasks are completed safely and in accordance with project requirements.
- Ensure all works are carried out in line with approved drawings, specifications, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and task-specific safety discussions.
- Monitor site progress and report performance against programme targets.
- Ensure the availability and effective utilisation of labour, plant, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure quality inspections are completed.
- Collaborate with Site Engineers, Surveyors, and project teams to resolve technical and operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with BBV, HS2, and statutory health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Identify and escalate risks, delays, and potential issues affecting project delivery.
- Maintain accurate records including site diaries, permits, inspections, and progress reports.
- Support investigations into incidents, close calls, and quality concerns, implementing corrective actions as required.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in a Foreperson, Supervisor, or Skilled Operative leadership role within civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, highways, or construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and site operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality management practices.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities while maintaining programme delivery.
- CSCS Card.
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) or equivalent.
