HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: General Foreperson
Location: Based in Coventry - the South Region comprises Sublots 2B, 2A and 1A Long Itchington Wood. It stretches for approximately 39.2km from Finham Brook to Southam through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide effective leadership and operational control of multi-disciplinary site teams, including Section Forepersons, Junior Forepersons, Gangers and supervisory staff, ensuring safe, productive and compliant delivery of works.
- Manage and monitor MSM direct works budgets, maintaining cost control, forecasting expenditure, and driving efficiencies while meeting programme and quality requirements.
- Contribute to change control processes, supporting the development of contract mechanisms and substantiation for cost recovery in line with HS2 commercial and governance frameworks.
- Coordinate and interface with Forepersons, Agents, Team Leaders and Engineering staff to resolve site issues, manage interfaces, and ensure seamless integration of construction activities.
- Participate in project steering groups and cross-discipline action groups, providing operational input, driving continuous improvement, and supporting collaborative delivery across the project.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in earthworks, with the ability to take full ownership of works from inception through to completion and formal handover.
- Communicates safe systems of work clearly and effectively, ensuring site teams understand and consistently comply with safety and procedural requirements.
- Proactive and solution-orientated leader, capable of working on own initiative, taking responsibility for outcomes, and identifying opportunities to improve delivery within scope of responsibility.
- Strong team player with well-developed communication skills, a robust work ethic, and flexibility to work unsociable hours, nights and weekends in line with programme demands.
- Holds a valid CSCS Card and full driving licence, with a professional approach to site standards, accountability, and operational excellence.
