HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: MEP Graduate Quantity Surveyor

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role: The MEP Graduate Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) packages on construction projects while developing the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.

Commercial Support

  • Assist in the commercial management of MEP subcontract packages.
  • Support the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and financial updates.
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential variances.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of subcontractor valuations and applications for payment.
  • Support the management of project budgets and cash flow reporting.

Procurement & Contract Administration

  • Assist with procurement activities including tender enquiries and bid evaluations.
  • Help prepare contract documentation and purchase orders.
  • Support the administration of subcontract agreements.
  • Maintain accurate records of commercial correspondence and contractual documentation.

Change Management

  • Assist in the valuation and management of variations and compensation events.
  • Maintain change control registers and supporting records.
  • Support the assessment of commercial impacts arising from design changes and programme adjustments.

Measurement & Valuation

  • Undertake quantity take-offs and measurement exercises.
  • Assist with the preparation of Bills of Quantities and cost plans.
  • Support interim valuations and final account preparation.
  • Review subcontractor accounts and supporting documentation.

Essential Experience:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
