Current Opportunity: Health, Safety & Welfare Compliance Auditor

Location:

Based at Fort Dunlop – this location sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, adjacent to the M6 motorway, providing excellent transport links into the city and across the region. Fort Dunlop serves as a key hub within IPT Area North, supporting operations that span multiple sublots and regional activities. Its strategic position makes it an important point for coordination and access, with proximity to major infrastructure routes ensuring connectivity to both the Central Region and wider project areas.

Role description:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Compliance Manager, this position will be responsible for:

• Planning and conducting assigned ISO 45001 and IMS audits in accordance with the approved audit programme.

• Preparing audit plans, selecting appropriate samples and defining audit criteria prior to undertaking audits.

• Conducting evidence-based audits through interviews, document review and workplace observations.

• Applying both upstream and downstream audit methodologies to assess process effectiveness and compliance.

• Evaluating conformity against BBV procedures, standards and relevant legislative requirements.

• Producing accurate, timely and professional audit reports identifying good practice, opportunities for improvement and non-conformities.

• Uploading completed audits, findings and supporting evidence into Dalux and other approved systems.

• Monitoring and verifying corrective and preventive actions to confirm their implementation and effectiveness.

• Identifying trends, recurring issues and areas of systemic risk and reporting these to the Compliance Manager.

• Liaising with Project Managers and operational teams to arrange audits, discuss findings and promote learning.

• Supporting coordinated project-wide audit themes and assurance campaigns.

• Presenting audit findings and trends at site, Sub-Lot and Regional SHWeLT meetings as required.

• Maintaining independence, objectivity and integrity throughout the audit process.

• Supporting continual improvement of the BBV Integrated Management System through feedback from audit activities.

• Undertaking ongoing professional development to maintain competence in auditing techniques, ISO standards and health & safety management systems.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

Auditing Knowledge

• Experience conducting internal, supplier, compliance or management system audits.

• Understanding of ISO 45001 management system requirements.

• Knowledge of audit planning, evidence gathering, sampling and reporting principles. Health & Safety Knowledge

• Sound understanding of construction health and safety management.

• Working knowledge of relevant UK health and safety legislation.

• Understanding of risk management and operational controls.

Communication Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to interview personnel at all levels and present findings professionally.

• Capable of producing concise and accurate audit reports.

Analytical Skills

• Ability to objectively assess evidence and reach balanced conclusions.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Capable of identifying trends and systemic issues from audit data.

Organisational Skills

• Ability to manage multiple audits and competing priorities.

• Effective planning and time management capabilities.

• Competent in Microsoft Office and digital management systems.

Qualifications Essential:

• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).

• Internal Auditor qualification or demonstrable auditing experience.

• IOSH Membership (or working towards membership).
