Current Opportunity: Junior Cost Controller

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Role Description:
Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) is seeking a motivated and detail - oriented Junior Cost Controller to join the Cost Control Team on the HS2 project. The successful candidate will support the management, monitoring and reporting of project costs across a range of work packages. Working closely with the Planning, Commercial and Delivery teams, the Junior Cost Controller will assist in maintaining accurate cost forecasts, preparing reports, analysing financial performance and ensuring project spend is controlled and reported effectively. Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Monitoring and Reporting Assist in monitoring project costs and budgets, ensuring all costs are accurately recorded and tracked against approved budgets and forecasts.
2. Forecasting Support Support the preparation and updating of cost forecasts, including reviewing committed costs, actual spend and anticipated future expenditure.
3. Monthly Cost Reporting Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly cost reports, including spend profiles, cost movements, variances and key financial metrics.
4. Data Analysis Analyse cost and budget data using Excel and Power Bi to identify trends, anomalies and potential risks or opportunities.
5. Dashboard and Report Preparation Support the creation and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports to present financial and performance information clearly to the wider project team.
6. Variance Analysis Investigate differences between actual costs and forecast or budgeted costs, identifying reasons for variances and escalating issues where necessary.
7. Cashflow Support Assist with the preparation of cashflow forecasts based on programme updates, planned works and historical spend trends.
8. Data Accuracy and Administration Maintain cost control systems and databases, ensuring all information is accurate, up to date and aligned with project reporting requirements.
9. Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with project managers, planners, commercial teams, finance teams and other stakeholders to ensure cost information is accurate and reported in a timely manner.
10. Continuous Improvement Contribute to improving reporting processes, templates and ways of working within the Cost Control Team.
Essential Experience:
• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a cost control, finance, commercial or project support role is desirable, ideally within the construction or infrastructure sector.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables and data analysis.
• Understanding of cost control, forecasting and budget management principles.
• Ability to work with large volumes of data and present information clearly.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
