Current Opportunity: MEP Project Controller
Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Key Responsibilities:
Project Controls & Governance
- Establish and maintain project control processes across MEP packages.
- Monitor project performance against key programme, cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Ensure compliance with project controls procedures, reporting standards, and governance requirements.
- Support project audits and assurance reviews.
Cost Management & Forecasting
- Track MEP package costs, commitments, and expenditure.
- Assist in the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Identify cost variances and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Support earned value management (EVM) and project performance measurement.
Programme Controls
- Monitor MEP progress against approved project programmes.
- Analyse schedule performance and identify risks to key milestones.
- Support the development of mitigation and recovery plans.
- Coordinate with planners to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting.
Change Management
- Maintain change control logs and records.
- Assess the impact of variations and change requests on programme and cost.
- Support commercial and project teams in evaluating change impacts.
- Ensure all changes are recorded, approved, and tracked appropriately.
Risk & Opportunity Management
- Support project risk identification and management processes.
- Maintain risk and opportunity registers for MEP packages.
- Monitor mitigation actions and report on key project risks.
- Assist in conducting risk workshops and scenario planning exercises.
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Produce weekly and monthly project controls reports.
- Develop dashboards, KPIs, trend analyses, and performance metrics.
- Provide accurate project data to support decision-making.
- Prepare management presentations and executive summaries.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with project managers, package managers, commercial teams, and subcontractors.
- Attend project reviews and progress meetings.
- Communicate project performance, risks, and forecasts to senior stakeholders.
- Act as a key point of contact for project controls relating to MEP activities.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in Project Controls, Cost Control, Planning, Project Management, or a similar construction role.
- Experience working on MEP, building services, or major construction projects.
- Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies and controls processes.
- Experience with cost reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
