HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: MEP Senior Planner

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Accountabilities:

Planning & Programme Management

  • Develop, maintain and manage detailed MEP project programmes using Primavera P6.
  • Integrate MEP activities into the wider construction and project delivery programme.
  • Establish project baselines and monitor progress against agreed milestones.
  • Develop commissioning, testing and handover schedules in collaboration with delivery teams.
  • Analyse programme performance and identify risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct critical path analysis and programme impact assessments.
  • Support the development of short-term and long-term planning strategies.

Reporting & Controls

  • Produce programme updates, dashboards and progress reports for project leadership teams.
  • Monitor earned value, productivity and programme performance metrics.
  • Provide schedule risk analysis and recovery planning recommendations.
  • Support project controls and reporting functions to ensure accurate forecasting.
  • Review changes and assess programme impacts arising from design or construction modifications.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with MEP delivery teams, design managers, construction managers and project controls teams.
  • Facilitate planning workshops and programme review meetings.
  • Coordinate planning activities with subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Support interface management between MEP, civil, structural and rail systems disciplines.
  • Present planning information and recommendations to senior management and project stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promote planning best practice and programme governance across project teams.
  • Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with BBV, HS2 and client planning requirements and standards.

Essential Experience:

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Planner, Project Planner or MEP Planner on major infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Significant experience planning Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health works. Advanced Primavera P6 expertise.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, project controls and programme management.
  • Experience developing integrated construction, testing and commissioning programmes.
  • Ability to perform critical path and delay analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies and programme governance
