Full Time

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Whether onsite or officed based all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Current Opportunity: Planning Manager

Location: Birmingham

Key Accountabilities:

Planning Control

• Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the Planning Department and that each has an appropriate level of ability. Establishes opportunities for mentoring to facilitate this

• Ensures the constant update and development of Long and Short Term Programmes and their monitoring

• Identifies longer term strategic training to support individual development as required

Quality

• Ensures compliance to the Project Management System

• Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate

• Leads working groups focused on Improvement Areas

• Overall ownership of Programme Handover Documentation and as built Programme.

Productivity

• Monitors performance based on KPI’s in line with key outputs, reporting Programme progress

• Drives Lean initiatives to improve project efficiency

• Carry out constructive analysis of fully resourced programme

• Ensure that appropriate lean visual programme metrics are set up to assist the Project Team to timely deliver projects and improve productivity, performance and safety of projects

Essential Experience:

Core

• Takes ownership of tasks and communicates outcomes with clarity, direction and purpose, including managing others in this regard

• Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights

• Able to frequently work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility and lead and manage others in this regard

• Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. Must be SMSTS qualified

• Excellent team player and team leader, able to work competently and independently without supervision. Reports back as necessary to update the Construction and Sub-Lot Project Director

• Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on best available information

• Strong communication skills with track record of solution orientated approach to issue resolution

• Excellent role model for development of junior staff and demonstrates required behaviours to align to business, project and team objectives

• Champions and develops collaborative behaviours within and external to the team

Health Safety & Environmental

• Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation

• Proficient in the application of Company Systems

Planning Control

• Considerable, in-depth experience of planning services within large complex environments within the construction and engineering industry

• Extensive experience in coaching, mentoring and developing others and of self- development

• Be advanced in the use of planning techniques and the required planning toolsets
