Job Title: Team Leader x 3 positions.
Salary: £89,444 Grade SE46
Location: At a Depot within the TfL network
Contract: London Underground
Shifts: Permanent Nights (Sunday to Thursday Night)

Job Purpose


Reporting to a DLO Work Controller, the Team Leader is responsible for delivering projects on TFL fire assets, leading, & managing the on-site team, delegating tasks to the appropriate personnel, to ensure that fire systems assets are designed, installed, commissioned, and maintained in accordance with the relevant scope and standards.
The job holder must be committed to LUL’s General Safety Policy statement and the Company’s safety program and be aware of their contribution to the program, including the requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards.
The job holder must be familiar with the safety legislation that is relevant to them and comply with the necessary statutory requirements.
These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Precautions Act 1971, and other associated regulations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Generate/collate supporting paperwork/files, construct fire detection & alarm systems configuration files, in preparation for new assets, and conduct commissioning.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate licenses/certificates for their role and the team.
  • Capable of identifying the requirements of the task in hand and manage a worksite.
  • Able to install, assist with commissioning, evaluate the integrity of the assets post commissioning, and declare it ‘fit for use’.
  • Gather information, report lack of information to relevant persons, assemble tools, equipment and materials and check fitness for purpose.
  • Must be able to deal promptly and effectively with problems within their control. Report to others, deviations which cannot be solved. Follow the correct process/operations for the allocated task. Establish and maintain communication with the relevant persons.
  • Provide management, administration and technical support to all operational employees in the team on behalf of the works controller including directly leading on suitable duties associated to the employees.
  • Manage all aspects/stages of fire detection & alarm replacement & upgrade works, from design to commissioning & handover- Assist with all aspects of assurance requirements, both in-house & with external (third party) auditing bodies

  • Strong knowledge of fire detection, alarm, suppression and life safety systems. Essential
    Understanding of installation and commissioning in an engineering discipline (preferably fire systems related).Essential

  • Proficient in producing commissioning documentation, reports and test certificates. Essential

Knowledge

  • Experience in design, installation, commissioning & fault finding on fire detection & alarm systems (AEL MX,
  • Kentec, Zonal CIE). Essential
  • Extensive experience in electrical installation, preferably including fire detection & alarm systems. Essential
  • Must meet the requirements of a senior technician grade or equivalent (an Approved Electrician). Essential
  • Thorough knowledge of BS5839pt1. Essential
  • EAL recognised L3 qualifications covering all aspects of BS 5839-1:2025. Essential
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (LVL3) or minimum LVL2 safety qualification. Desirable
  • IET Effective Management Training. Desirable
  • Manufacturer Product Training (AEL, Kentec). Desirable
  • Fire systems related TFL CAT 1 standards & guidance. Desirable

Experience

  • Proven track record of managing small installation & commissioning tasks in a SPC role (Site Person In Charge). Essential
  • Must have demonstrated competence in Inspection and Testing. Essential
  • Able to lead/manage a team and take responsibility regarding quality and standards. Essential
  • Proven industry experience and demonstrated competency of electrical systems installations (preferably including fire systems), within the rail or LU environment. Desirable

Assessment will consist of the following:

  • Competency based interview followed by
  • Fault finding assessment. (duration approx. 2hrs)
  • This will take place on the same day.
