Design Project Manager - Major Infrastructure

£500 per day | Inside IR35
Long-term Contract
Paddington, London - 3 days per week

We are recruiting for a Design Project Manager to support the delivery of a major UK infrastructure programme.

This is a project management role focused on the coordination and delivery of complex engineering design activities. The ideal candidate will have started their career in an engineering or design discipline before transitioning into a Project Management role.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to understand technical challenges, identify integration and interface issues, manage risk and change, and ensure design delivery remains aligned with programme, governance and contractual requirements.
This is not a traditional Design Manager position. The role is best suited to someone who understands the design process and can engage confidently with technical teams, while taking ownership of project management, commercial interfaces, reporting and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
·Support the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering design packages on a major infrastructure programme.
·Identify, coordinate and escalate technical integration and interface issues.
·Manage design-related risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
·Coordinate engineering activities with project controls, commercial and delivery teams.
·Manage change through Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
·Monitor design progress against agreed deliverables and programme milestones.
·Ensure design activities remain aligned with project governance and contractual requirements.
·Produce clear progress reports and communicate key issues to senior stakeholders.

Essential Experience
·Proven Project Management experience delivering engineering design contracts on major infrastructure projects.
·A background in engineering or design, followed by a transition into a Project Management role.
·Experience working for or alongside a major engineering design consultancy.
·Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design delivery, technical interfaces and integration.
·Experience managing project risk, change and stakeholder relationships.
·Knowledge of NEC contracts, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
·Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
Experience within rail, transportation or other major infrastructure sectors would be highly advantageous.

This is a long-term opportunity for a Design Project Manager who can bridge the gap between technical engineering teams and the wider project management, commercial and delivery functions.
