Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £101,677.20 per year (dependent on experience)
A major infrastructure organisation is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join the team delivering one of the most significant new rail stations in the UK.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of Birmingham Interchange for HS2, leading engineering activities through the design phase before progressing into construction. Working within an integrated project team, you'll be responsible for managing technical assurance, driving design quality and ensuring successful integration between civils, structures, and rail systems on a highly complex programme.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Environment, you'll provide engineering leadership throughout the development and delivery of Birmingham Interchange, a major new station comprising two island platforms, overbridges, a large multi-storey car park and extensive interfaces with surrounding infrastructure and urban development.
Initially, the focus will be on taking the project through the redesign and detailed design phases, working closely with design consultants and key stakeholders before transitioning into construction and site delivery over the coming years.
You'll act as the technical lead across the project, ensuring designs are robust, technically compliant and fully integrated with neighbouring contracts and future railway systems. The role will also provide the opportunity to build and develop your own engineering team as the project progresses.
Responsibilities:
·Lead engineering assurance throughout the design and delivery lifecycle.
·Manage the technical review and assurance of design submissions.
·Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, specifications and employer's requirements.
·Coordinate interfaces between civils, structures, rail systems and neighbouring contracts.
·Work closely with designers, contractors and specialist engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
·Support programme, commercial and project teams in identifying engineering risks and developing mitigation strategies.
·Engage with major external stakeholders including local authorities, transport bodies and third-party organisations.
·Provide technical leadership throughout detailed design before supporting the transition into construction.
·Support the growth of the engineering function, with the opportunity to manage additional Project Engineers as the project develops.
Essential Experience:
·Strong experience delivering the design and assurance of major rail infrastructure projects valued at £100m+.
·Background working for a client organisation or major infrastructure consultancy.
·Excellent understanding of design management, technical assurance and engineering governance.
·Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines and complex stakeholder interfaces.
·Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage clients, contractors and external organisations.
Desirable:
·Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous.
·Client-side experience is desirable but not essential.
What's on Offer
·Opportunity to deliver one of the UK's flagship rail infrastructure projects.
·Long-term career progression within a nationally significant programme.
·Hybrid working based from Birmingham.
·Opportunity to build and develop an engineering team as the project progresses.
·Competitive salary, 20% flexible benefits package and excellent wider benefits.
